Welcome Message

Integration constitutes the fundamental essence of geography. Amid ongoing global change, interactions between human socioeconomic systems and natural environmental systems have intensified dramatically and It is imperative to take an integrated interdisciplinary perspective to address daunting sustainable development challenges that cannot be resolved by individual disciplines of physical geography, human geography or technological geography. As an emerging discipline built upon geography's three core subfields, integrated geography focuses on the overall structure, functions and evolutionary patterns of coupled human-environment systems and explores their underlying driving mechanisms and targeted regulatory approaches. In a rapidly transforming world, theories and methodologies of integrated geography lay solid disciplinary foundations for mitigating resource and environmental constraints and balancing ecological conservation with socioeconomic advancement, thus scientifically empowering local and global practices toward sustainable development.

The International Workshop on Geography and Sustainability 2027 adopts the theme Towards Integrated Geography in a Changing World. Centering on integrated geographic theories, methodologies and their applications in sustainable development research, the conference covers a wide spectrum of topics including geographic big data and artificial intelligence, numerical simulation of coupled human-environment systems, as well as the progress and pathways of regional and global sustainable development. It strives to advance scientific understanding of coupled human-environment systems and boost the disciplinary contributions of integrated geography to sustainable development. We cordially invite experts and scholars worldwide in the field of geography and sustainability to attend this event, share research findings and jointly explore the future of integrated geography.
